Best country for dental tourism

The concept of dental tourism is fairly new, but gaining great steam. With benefits that go beyond just affordability, it really is something to consider. The premise of dental tourism is travelling to a country where you are able to undergo dentistry at a far more affordable rate than you would be able to do so in your home country.

Affordable dental treatment

Many of your conservative dental treatments are covered as per most health plans. Some of your more detailed treatments may require additional payment from you. Then there are some dental treatments which are not covered by dental plans at all. These are your cosmetic treatments. They are the main reason for people seeking out the best country for dental tourism. Since they do not offer any functional value to the mouth except to make for a better looking smile, they are not covered as per dental plans, requiring for out of pocket payments. Treatments such as veneers can really add up, since they are charged per tooth. A brighter and straighter smile does equate to youth. The social value of popping out a friendly, full on smile is countless. If the full or added expense is not closely within reach, or means that you would go into debt, then dental tourism may be your cloud with a silver lining. If you live in the UK, USA or Australia for instance, you can save majorly on your dental cost when you seek out alternative countries. You do get more for your money, due to the economic exchange rates and then that the cost of living is cheaper in countries such as South Africa. In certain cases, it is up to 90 percent cheaper to have your dental treatments done here than in your own country. This cost saving route does factor in the travel costs as well when looking at the best country for dental tourism. It is a double bargain, because now you can get in a holiday as well. South Africa is a top tourism destination even when you do not factor in the dental element. Activities are endless from wildlife to cultural or even cosmopolitan. Many people, all over the world have already experienced the value of South Africa being the best country for dental tourism.

The best country for dental tourism

Many countries around the globe fit the bill for the requirements of dental tourism, mainly cheapness and a booming tourism sector. The challenge would be finding the best country for dental tourism. The best country for dental tourism will not only depend on cost. You must also take the quality of work into account. The results of cosmetic dentistry will be the look you wear for years to come. The dentist needs to be able to have more than just a dentistry knowledge but to be able to offer an individualized treatment plan for each patient. The final look of a smile should not be generic but one which naturally fits into the person’s facial structure. For this reason, the best country for dental tourism is one that has a good worldwide reputation for quality dental work. The calibre of medical professionals in a country such as South Africa, makes this destination one of the premier spots for medical surgeries. Now dentistry is taking shape among foreign visitors who are deeming it the best country for dental tourism. For a fraction of the price at other countries, you have access to the same state of the art facilities as well as dentist standards. On top of South Africa being a steady competitor as the best country for dental tourism, you are able to enjoy a nice little holiday in one of the most vibrant and diverse places on the planet. <

Treatment time and recovery

Majority of dental treatments can be carried out within a single dental session. Added visits may be needed. The first would be for a consultation where information can be relayed between the dentist and patient or the teeth can be immediately prepped for the dental procedure. Cosmetic imaging is available at Silver Oaks Dental Clinic, one of the few dental clinics in South Africa to offer this treatment that is usually only offered at high end practices in the US and UK. The best country for dental tourism is one where the dentists offer a wide range of services such as this. With dental imagery, patients are able to know what the outcome of their cosmetic dentistry is going to look like even before a step is taken into the treatment. It also allows for patients to be able to add their opinion allowing the dentist to then tweak results. The second reason why added visits may be needed would be for check-ups. This is just for the dentist to be able to check that the treatment has gone well and that the intended results have been achieved. For the dental procedure, dentists in South Africa offer many anaesthetic options. The most basic and common is a localized injection which causes a numbness so that no pain is felt by the patient. For surgical intervention or for nervous patients, then something such as nitrous oxide is used. Most dentistry treatments do not require for a lengthy recovery process. Healing is done pretty quickly. If you are using South Africa as your choice of best country for dental tourism, then you are in for a treat. The sunny disposition of this warm and friendly country is an invite into relaxation mode. Being in this sort of environment only speeds up any healing process. It is not just that. Not having to worry about everyday life is also a contributing factor to be able to heal quickly while on holiday. These factors also make it possible for business travellers to South Africa to be able to take advantage of their time in the country to get in a quick fix to their smile. Note, that for most cosmetic procedures, the only downtime is for the numbness to wear down, which happens just a few hours later. It is a small price to pay, to be able to walk away a short while later, with a fantastic looking smile.

Best countries for Dental Implants

All hope is not lost to those who have lost a tooth or their entire set of teeth. Dental implants are a dentistry treatment which is a permanent solution to the loss of tooth. Sadly, that hope goes away when the realization of the cost of implants becomes known. It is even worse when you consider, that an implant is charged per tooth, which ends up being a steep figure if you have to have them done for the entire mouth. It is no secret that health charges in countries such as Australia and England for example, are enormous. You would still be looking at a steep figure even if you are covered by dental health plans. Looking to get implants in other countries offers a fix to this dilemma.  Best countries for Dental Implants

Best countries for dental implants

The best countries for dental implants would be those where you would get a good price and quality treatment. A super low price should always be looked to for red flags. Many different materials can be made of use in the implant process. Make sure that the dental clinic you choose makes use of dental grade quality. The good news is that you have a number of options to turn to, which results in a very good chance of you finding the ideal package to deal with your situation. Pricing packages for implants differ around the world, and it is the cost of living that is responsible for this. In South Africa for instance, it would be cheaper to get dental implants from the coastal city of Durban than the financial hub of Johannesburg. The cost of living is cheaper in the former, hence the pricing difference. So consider the cities along with the best countries for dental implants. The quality of work is also of major concern. The usual consensus is that due to the cheaper pricing, the lower the quality of work. This could not be more false. The truth is, is that some of the best countries for dental implants have gained this reputation because their dentistry is on par with many first world countries. In fact many of these dentists have gotten some of their training by working at noted practices. They understand that dental implants are a long and costly process to consider. Then there is the uncertainty of the outcome. Will the shape chosen by the dentist fit in with your facial shape? This is countered by 3D imaging which will allow the dentist to show his desired design on a photo of the patient. Take into consideration that you will be travelling to a foreign country to have your dental implant inserted. Once you have narrowed down your choices as the best countries for dental implants, choose a country that offers you scope for relaxation and touring. This is done for 2 reasons. When considering the best countries for dental implants, you must cater in recovery time. Most dental treatments need a small amount of recovery time or for the numbing anaesthetic to wear off. Dental implants are another story altogether. This is because surgical intervention is required for the placement of the implant, which is done directly into the jaw. You want to choose a country where you would have ample and affordable opportunity to do so in. Then there is also the factor of being able to do some travel in the country. Travelling all the way to some of the best countries for dental implants can be considered a waste if you do not get to see at least a small bit of the country. Even if you get to take a day or 2, do so and get yourself a nice double deal of new teeth and a holiday.

What to expect in the best countries for dental implants?

You are likely to make 2 trips to the best countries for dental implants. You can liaise with the dentist at your chosen clinic before you meet for your initial consultation. During the first trip, the dentist will have to place the dental implant into the jaw bone. This must be scheduled as an anaesthesiologist needs to be brought in to administer the sedation. Although the implant process does require a tiny bit of surgery, there is no need for hospitalization. It will be carried out in the dentist’s rooms. Unlike most other dental treatments, there is a recovery period here. Some of the best countries for dental implants have garnered that reputation not just for being able to provide quality services at affordable prices but for being able to also offer ample choice for recovery. South Africa has become one of the best countries for dental implants, because the country meets all of these criteria. English is also the main medium in the country which will ease the communication barrier you may find in some of the other best countries for dental implants. Take a day or 2 for a good rest which will aid in your recovery. Afterwards, enjoy a nice safari or visits to one of the many famed tourist sites in the country. It’s not strenuous travel and allows you to take advantage of getting more than just dental implants when making a trip here. The second trip will be done to attach the tooth. This requires a separate trip because it is done months after the first trip. If you do frequent travels to countries that offer affordable dental implants, such as on business trips, then schedule your appointments to correspond. The time period would depend on the bone density of each patient. This follow up visit is when a dental crown will be attached to the implant. Crowns are porcelain material shaped just like a tooth. They can be shaped and coloured variable ways. The additional benefit to porcelain besides looking just like a natural tooth is that it does not decay or stain. The colour chosen will be the one that remains. Keeping your teeth in good condition is now one step easier.

How To Stop Snoring

Snoring Prevention

Anti Snoring Device

sleep apnea

Is your spouse driving you crazy with their snoring?

Snoring can wreck havoc in a marriage. Most people lack the needed 8 hours of sleep.

You don't need to suffer anymore.

Up to 40% of the population in industrialized countries snore. The decreasing muscle tone during the sleep causes a narrowing of the upper respiratory tract. This narrowing accelerates the respiratory airflow, thereby various structures in the area of the upper respiratory tract start to vibrate and cause the snoring noise. So snoring is a mechanical process that can be counteracted mechanically. Here the dental therapy comes into action. Light or primary snoring do not have consequences on health whereas the rhonchopathy, the abnormal snoring, does.

We recently had one of our patient's phone in to East Coast Radio asking for a solution to her very loud snoring/sleep apnea. The patient could not go on holiday with her friends and family or have anyone sleep next to her due to her very loud snoring. This made it difficult socially for her and made her feel all alone. Our solution was the Silensor-SL snore guard.

The patient had a snoring app on her phone that measured her snoring in decibels. She put on the phone app then went to sleep and measured her snoring before Silensor-Sl snore guard and after Silensor-Sl snore guard. She was amazed by the results. Her snoring completely stopped after using Silensor-Sl.

Sleep Apnea is, at a certain level of severity, a serious disease, that may cause not only sleepiness during the day but also serious systemic diseases.

The snore guard called Silensor-Sl can change you and your spouses life. Feel free to chat to Dr Huson about the snore guard.

The benefits of the Silensor snore guard are:

They are a custom fit dental anti-snoring device.

Clinically proven to help stop snoring. No more sleepless nights

Manufactured by experienced personnel

Individually custom made to fit your mouth

Slimline, Lightweight and comfortable to wear.

The Silensor-sl can be expected to be very successful since in almost all cases the noise involved in snoring is caused by constriction of the airways. Because of its compact design, the device does not inhibit breathing through the mouth.
With severe corpulence a good success of the treating, however, is doubtful. The effectiveness will thus be increasingly reduced at a BMI (body-mass-index) of more than 30. The Silensor-sl cannot be used with edentulous patients and should only be fixed to a partial denture which has adequate retention. It is up to the dentist to assess whether or not residual teeth provide enough retention.

Dental Veneers Before and After in Durban

Dental Veneers Procedure in Durban

Our Case-Of-The-Month for July is Gemmah. Gemmah re-did her top four front teeth. She wanted to improve her confidence as she worked with international clientele on a luxury yacht.

Due to her work schedule she had limited time in South Africa. We carried out her smile makeover over a week.

Dr Huson's solution for her top four front teeth were dental veneers.

This first step involved Gemmah's active participation. After Dr Huson analysed her teeth he went over possible options with regards to her desired look. She explained to Dr Huson the result that she wanted. Photos and models of her teeth were then taken.

Teeth cleaning and teeth whitening were carried out. Dr Huson then prepared her teeth for dental veneers. Guided templates and stents were used to ensure that the absolute minimal enamel was removed from Gemmah's tooth surface. (Often as little as 0.1 millimeters or often none at all). Dr Huson then removed any evidence of decay and carefully shaped the teeth to correct any chips or gaps. Before trimming of the enamel Dr Huson discussed the various pain free options with her he then made a model or impression of her teeth.

The model was then sent to our onsite lab technicians, who custom made the dental veneers. After a few days Gemmah came back to get the veneers fitted. In the meantime, Dr Huson gave her temporary veneers. These temporary dental veneers match the planned final dental veneers. The reason why we do this is so you can see if you like the fit and feel and ask family and friends for their opinions on the aesthetics of your teeth.

Gemmah came in again to our clinic where bonding was carried out before the dental veneers was permanently cemented to her teeth, Dr Huson temporarily placed the veneers so that Gemmah could examine the fit and color. Slight adjustments were made at this stage because we have an onsite lab. Next, Dr Huson prepared the teeth to receive the veneers, the teeth were cleaned, polished, and etched -- which roughens the teeth to allow for a strong bonding process. A special cement was applied to the veneer and the veneer was then placed on her tooth. Once properly positioned on the tooth, Dr Huson applied a special light beam to the dental veneer, which activates chemicals in the cement, causing it to harden or cure very quickly. The final steps involved removing any excess cement, evaluating Gemmah's bite and making any final adjustments in the Veneer as necessary. Gemmah came in for a checkup to see if the veneers have taken to the teeth.

Many of our clients come from as far afield as the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, the UAE, the Netherlands, France, and Italy, to name but a few. It is often imperative that their treatment is completed in as short a time as possible. This can often mean that their dental work is completed in a single day or maximum a week if the case is more complicated.

Now you can get quick turnaround dental care. We offer a variety of effective cosmetic dentistry and general dental care solutions from our clinic in Musgrave, Durban, South Africa.

We have an excellent dental laboratory on-site with specialist technicians who work closely with us to make sure that your smile is perfect. Dr Huson has over 20 years of experience and worked in the Harley Street Region of London under world renowned celebrity dentist Dr Joe Oliver.

Teeth Whitening Durban

Teeth Whitening Durban Debunked

I cannot tell you how much of misinformation there is on the web especially on Youtube with tutorials teaching you on how to whiten your teeth ‘naturally’ or at home recipes using baking soda, coconut oil or strawberries. These are strongly discouraged by a dentist as this will erode your teeth in the long term and damage your gum tissue.
Many people are looking to whiten their teeth as white teeth is associated with good oral hygiene and research has shown that straight, white teeth can make you look 10 years younger. Bright, white teeth are no longer only for Hollywood celebrities. It is now affordable for the average population. They say first impressions last and whitening your teeth increases your confidence and can make you look amazing on your wedding day, increase your business sales and can even get you your dream job.
Professional Teeth whitening is a process to lighten the colour of your teeth from yellow or grey to a whiter and brighter shade. There are two types of teeth whitening procedures in Durban. Tray based teeth whitening and LED/Laser teeth whitening. We use a combination of tray and laser based in order to safely and effectively whiten your teeth.
You can lighten your teeth up to 9 shades whiter with our teeth whitening system called Polar Night. We use lower doses of carbamide to decrease sensitivity so that you don’t experience any pain. Teeth Whitening in Durban should be done under the supervision of a dentist. Our teeth whitening procedure is also much more effective than any home teeth whitening system and is more cost effective than any professional or home teeth whitening system in the long term. We offer the highest quality in dentistry and all our products and services meet European Standards.

Some quick Facts about Teeth Whitening in Durban

• It is reccomended that  you whiten your teeth if you are 20 years or older. We don’t recommend teeth whitening for younger individuals as their enamel is still forming.
The most effective teeth whitening procedure in Durban is getting it professionally done by a dentist. It is also the safest procedure. At home teeth whitening kits or alternatives such as baking soda, swishing your mouth in coconut oil, brushing with crushed strawberries are all highly dangerous for your teeth and leads to erosion of your enamel in the long term. These methods can also damage your gums.
• Whilst teeth whitening toothpaste and whitening gum has some whitening chemicals in them they are far too weak to have an effect.
Do NOT mouth rinse with hydrogen peroxide. This is extremely dangerous and can cause free radicals. The same radicals that age tissue.
The strongest whitening gel is NOT the most effective method. If you whiten your teeth in one session you will increase the sensitivity and experience severe pain in your teeth. That is why we use lower doses of carbamide over a longer period of time. It is the most effective in the long term as it keeps your teeth white.
To main a healthy, brighter, clean smile in the long term it is important to get your teeth cleaned by an oral hygienist every 6 months.
•Even after whitening your teeth it is best to avoid foods that discolour your teeth such as curry, red wine and coffee. The best method is to drink cool drinks and other stain enhancing foods via a straw.
Fillings, crowns and veneers cannot be whitened. Only your natural teeth can.
•Once whitened, teeth will not stay white forever. The colour change is permanent but the aging process still continues that is why touch up’s are needed in order to maintain white teeth. That is another reason we use the custom tray method. It is the most effective method in the long term and the most affordable method. You will not need to repeat the entire procedure again which will cost you more money in the long term. You just need the top up gels that cost R135 each.

Medical aid will not pay for any teeth whitening procedure. It is seen as a cosmetic procedure.
